Individual Scouting Missions

Each mission successfully completed is worth extra credit in the stated subject. Any essay must conform to Formal Rules of Writing. You may choose any or all of those missions appropriate for your current level. Missions are designed to be done outside of class; there is no time limit. Be sure and label these papers "WarRoom Extra Credit" and give the points that they are supposed to be worth...so I know what's going on.

Duels and Team Wars

Duels and Team Wars measure your confidence. Here you have something to lose and well as something to gain: the splendor of victory! - the agony of defeat! Read the directions carefully...and proceed with caution!

[Medal of Valor awarded for each victory]

Duels:

1. Pick an opponent by challenging him or her to a duel.

2. Both opponents must already have at least +2 pts extra credit in any subject.

3. Opponents must be within one level of each other (for example, no nobles challenging level 1-6)

4. Opponents must agree on choice of weapon and rules (agree on a History/Anthro unit each has already had and decide if answer is to be given orally or in writing)

- Written answers rely simply on accuracy (correct answer wins)

- Oral answers rely on accuracy and speed (since the first who answers correctly...wins)

- In case of ties, a tie-breaking question will be asked

5. Arrange a meeting place and time with the King (usually before or after school, or there may be a designated 'Duel Day' in class coming up).

6. At the appointed time and place, the King will ask one question based on the information in the agreed unit (or more in the case of a tie)

7. The victor takes +2 points extra credit from the defeated!

- Defeated decides what subject the -2 extra credit comes from

- Victor decides what subject the +2 extra credit goes into

8. No more than 1 duel per week (the defeated have to have time to heal!)

Team Wars!

1. Choose a teammate (must be within one level of you)

2. Get an opposing team (must both be within one level of you)

3. All participating students must have at least +5 extra credit in some subject area

4. See the King for specific battle instructions. (All four opponents must receive battle instructions from the King at the same time so that both teams have the same starting time).

- Each battle will involve researching the answer to a question in History [These will take one day or longer]

- Once the battle instructions are given out, the battle must be completed before any of the particpants are allowed to engage in another team war, and there are no cancellations or postponements

- The first team to turn in a satisfactory answer wins +5 each extra credit from the other team, and 2 red licorices each [Note 1: the extra credit will be in History/Anthro, or English if there is a formal paper involved] [Note 2: answers will be accepted by e-mail if that is agreed to beforehand]

4. You may engage in no more than three team wars per trimester

5. No more than 1 duel per week.
